GEOGRAPHY STUDENT PROJECTS

This is a listing of projects completed by students in the Geography Department's Geospatial Minor program. This multi-semester program introduces student to the basics of GIS and cartography and then adds more advanced skills such as data mining, 3-D visualization, and geospatial statistical analysis.

Here is a list of projects with short descriptions:
  • Adam Root: A compilation of recent data on West Nile Virus cases for 4 midwestern states. Data is presented for people, birds, and horses.
  • Clayton Schultz: This project shows the history of deer taken in the Frenchman Wildlife Management Area for ten years, comparing four units within the area.
  • Jim Chezem: This project shows a lost-cost way to equip a combine with a GPS unit and yield-monitor to produce yield maps of fields. Then comparisons are made with systems
  • Tornadoes: Here is a comparison of hundreds of tornadoes throughout the Midwest - do they look randomly distributed to you?
  • Roshan Bhandari: This is the GIS characterization of Chadron State Park. This is the first accurate boundary determination we know of for this park.
